Punked!

Last night, the city of New York came alive with the most important fashion and arts event known to us as the Met Gala. Organized by the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art,the exhibit  is held annually with the intention of celebrating a body of work from a  different fashion eras, designers, artist or decades. Celebrities show up each year wearing their favorite designers who sometimes  double as their dates, and I completely agree when they call it fashion's academy awards. This year, the benefit gala was all about PUNK: CHAOS TO COUTURE, celebrating the influence of punk culture and style over couture. And as with each year, no one came there to play games ( well some clearly did). Here are a few of the  most talked about looks from last night.

Honorary chairwoman of this year's event Beyonce in Givenchy. B had to pull out the dramatic train.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon dress and Phillip Tracey headpiece.
Ann Hathaway debuted a new hair color to compliment her edgy Valentino dress.
Miley Cyrus took the theme to heart and showed up (spiked hair and head tilt? check!)looking every bit the rock n roll chick in Marc Jacobs.
Stunner of the evening Cameron Diaz just lit up the carpet with this electric blue punk-esq Stella McCartney custom gown with its on-trend cape and spiked belt. Love love love!
The most sought after actress in hollywood may have gone the safe route with this Dior piece, but Shot up the elegance factor by adding a black birdcage veil and bold lips. Really, Jennifer Lawrence can do no wrong!
'Girls' actress Allison Williams wowed in a long sleeve sexy Altuzarra gown.  She complimented her look with smokey winged eye makeup and nude lips. We'll say she really got the theme.
Katie Holmes went off track, but she still looked dramatic in this Calvin Klein number. Her look is complimented by a Lorraine Schwartz jewels, a slicked back bouffant and smokey eyes.
'The Great Gatsby' actress Carey Mulligan got it so so right again in this fall 2013 Balenciaga  piece! The punk era's obsession with safety pins is evident through the gold pin at the neck.  With everyone trying to look edgy, Carey was a breath of timeless, elegant simplicity.  She too can do no wrong in our eyes.
For a woman who just killed it with her action scenes in Iron Man 3, pink wasn't what we were expecting. While Gwyneth Paltrow still looked pretty in this Valentino gown, one can't help but wish she had done something more dramatic with her makeup and accessories at least.
Nicole Richie's look was nothing short of dramatic! From the the white hair to the fully embroidered Topshop( yes THAT Topshop) gown, the petite lady was all that was daring. We suspect this look will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Event Co-chair Rooney Mara stunned in white Givenchy Couture dress. We expected nothing less from the girl who has come to represent punk elegance and moodiness.
Kerry Washington a.k.a Olivia Pope took time away from making our heads spin in 'Scandal' in order to bring us this loveliness at the gala last night. She wore a lavender and floral printed Vera Wang gown that fell into a fishtail. The punk is in her sexy cat-eye make up, fishnet panel and black opera gloves.

Supermodel Chanel Iman looked absolutely beautiful J Mendel.

Anja Rubik slayed in her Anthony Vaccarello look. She went against the norm of gowns and opted for this sexy red mini. And what screams punk and edge better than leather? From hair to heels, Anja was all kinds of hot last night.
Taylor Swift did not disappoint. She wore a J Mendel gown which featured a very dramatic embellished neck, cut-outs accentuated by lace and a J Mendel minaudiere. Black nail polish and dark eye makup completed her look.
